Lala's Movie Reviews......take 6

As you know we are somewhat of movie hounds and I have enough movies/reviews to warrant an entire post! I know I know....get a life!

Blades of Glory... staring one of our fav's Will Ferrell and Jon Heder.... ok we are talking pee your pants funny! like from the beginning to the end. At one point I was crying and sliding down my seat in the theater! so so so so funny. Will's facial expressions crack us up he is such a comic genius. We saw it on opening night to a sold out theater. We were surprised to find a LOT of small children there. It is rated PG-13 here in Canada but with SNL humor and some crudeness this is NOT a movie for small children. If you don't like SNL comedy then don't watch it. If you like Will Ferrell this is him at his finest! Jon Heder also gave a stellar performance, this guy is great! Also we were totally surprised and pleased that Pam ( Jenna Fischer) from the Office, our favorite 1/2 comedy, was in it. She fit the part perfectly. So if you are in the mood to laugh and you like Will Ferrell then you HAVE TO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!

The Pursuit of Happiness......staring Will Smith and introducing his son Jaden. What a great movie! this is based on a true story. Totally inspiring and a true picture of achieving the American Dream. Great acting and really moving! another must see.

Eragon ... staring Ed Speleers, Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich to name a few. This was a great family movie. I had NO idea that this was written by a 16 year old boy! totally made it even better and great for kids to know what can be done at even such an early age! I recommend this one for families, noting that there is some fighting that some parents of children who get bad dreams easily should probably watch first.

Stranger than Fiction.... staring Will Ferrell, Emma Thompson (another favorite of mine), Dustin Hoffman and Queen Latifa. I loved this movie. I didn't find it boring in parts as some reviews suggested. I was intrigued by the whole idea/concept of the movie. It was great seeing Will in a serious role and I thought he did a fantastic job. For an actor to who some can be over the top I think he brought a controlled performance and was perfect for the role. Another must see.

The Prestige staring Hugh Jackman (love him), Christian Bale (ok love him too), Michael Cane, Scarlett Johanson, and David Bowe. A very well rounded and very fantastic cast. Loved this movie. It has twists and turns that keep you guessing throughout the movie. If you like mystery-type movies than you will love this one.

The Nativity Story staring Keisha Castle-Hughes (from Whale Rider...also A MUST SEE). This was a great great movie. I thought it was a great movie for all ages and a real eye-opener for all to see what Mary would have gone through. My kids got a better glimpse of what Christmas is really about. I think every family should own a copy of this movie.

ok well I think that is enough for now! let me know what you thought of these movies too!

I hope you're feeling better. I'd like to see Blades of Glory, and The Prestige. I know Son #1 would love Eragon as he read the book (and it's followup, Eldest). We'll probably end up getting them all on DVD, though. We rarely see movies in the theater.

I also loved the Prestige and we saw The Nativity Story in the theatre just before Christmas. Very well made and excellent movie. Ashley just came home from Blades of Glory and said her and her friends laughed all the way through. I can't wait to see it. I haven't seen the other movies, but they're on my Zip list.

I have not seen any of these movies. I thank you for your reviews. Some of them I wasn't going to watch, but now I'll have to check them out because you have me interested.

Thanks for sharing.

My hubby loves Will Ferrell and I can't stand his acting! However I thought pursuit of happyness was a profound film and yes, very moving. The only time I usually make it to the theatre is with my 5 year old daughter. The last movie we saw was Happy Feet. It was cute but a little long.

This should give you an idea of what goes on in my house for entertainment....

Last movie watched, "Barbie Diaries", "Zoom", "Eveybody's Hero", The Backyardigans (Mission to Mars), Meet the Robinsons, and the list goes on pretty much like this!!! My hubby did rent the Will Smith movie but we have yet to watch it. I'd like to get out to see a movie for my age soon...

We saw Eragon and the kids enjoyed it, but they don't scare easily!

I'm so out of the loop I haven't EVEN HEARD of some of those movies. I suck.

the Nativity Story sounds great.

I read the book, The Pursuit of Happyness (I know - it's spelled wrong for a reason), and will rent the movie soon. I saw Will and his son on Oprah, and it was a delightful interview. I'm usually disappointed in movies made off books - we'll see how this one rates.

We almost saw Blades of Glory this weekend but my wife got sick:( We saw Borat (finally) on DVD instead. Thanks for the words on Puruit of Happyness - I've been wanting to see that one too.

I just got in from seeing Blades of Glory... on your recommendation... and I didn't like it. Sorry! I'm not a fan of Will Farrell to begin with - although this was a little better than other films he's been in.
