why not to stick your tongue on a poll in -22 degree weather

cuz it will get stuck and then have to have warm water poured over it and many many layers of skin will be pulled off.....much bleeding will occur and people will panick and it will end by your principal having to drive you and your sisters home.

This is something I would have thought that Hailey would have done. Nope. It was Emily. Her and her best friend who is one of our neighbors sons, dared each other to do it. He was smarter than she and admited to having tried it on the weekend and it got stuck but he managed to pull it off with little skin loss. Emily apparently has the same mentality as her father and is a go big or go home kind of gal. She didn't just stick the tip of her tongue on the frozen * read -22 degrees with it being -38 with the wind factor * poll, she stuck her whole tongue on it. Yup her nose was squashed against the poll.

Morgan called me crying telling me that the principal was driving them all home, it happened after school. I panicked a bit thinking it must be really bad to have to get a ride home from the principal. He just wanted to make sure the bleeding stopped and so they missed the bus. What a great man, his wife is really sick with cancer right now and so my family is really praying for them. She had blood all down her jacket and in her hair, quite the sight and I guess she had been quite brave but when getting a hug from mommy she finally broke down. Something about having your mommy hold you makes you feel safe to finally cry I think..... I sure understand that one!! It stings her to eat or drink but I think it will be even better in the morning.

I wonder if the other girls have learned the same lesson as Emily did but I wouldn't be surprised if the little ones do the same thing at some point! Leave it to 2 new kids in this rural Northern town to dare each other to touch the frozen polls with their tongues...... the local kids must have been thinking "what idiots".....uh hem!!! city slickers!

It is -30 this morning!! oh my it is cold!

Oh no! I hope she is feeling better. I have to admit though, I chuckled a bit reading this post. Sounds like something one of my boys would do.

I probably should NOT be laughing right now, but what the heck -- I NEEDED a good laugh as crummy as I've been feeling. I AM SOOOOO SORRY the poor little sweetie had to learn the HARD WAY! Why is that? I do hope she feels better SOON!

Oh wow. I know we have all been tempted, but the guts...the courage to actually do it. Now if that same courage can be redirected away from the pole.

You have a strong one there...hope she is getting some of her taste back...

This post was too funny. I have done the same as a kid,but not quite all my tongue or nose.
You should rent the Christmas storey for them to watch. It is a clasic.
"I double dog dare you".
Hope her tongue is better, out tongues heal fast.

Oh No! I hope she's feeling better! I thought the same thing as schmitt4: I live in southeast Louisiana, USA - no frozen poles here - but I've seen Christmas Story enough times to know better. (then again, when I see a 'wet paint' sign, I just have to put my finger out there to test it, so nothing's a given!)

I'm sad to say I was the idiot that learned that lesson the hard way. Tell Em the tongue is the fastest healing organ - she'll get better soon, I know from first-hand experience! Duh.

Poor little girl. I never had to learn that lesson, but I fear my little guy might learn it one day!

Good lord? -30 already? We've been getting down to -25, but not -30? Thats too early to be that cold!

I remember doing that as a kid. It didn't stick too bad and I was able to get my tongue off in time...I didn't do it again after that!!

Just as good as their mommy when she stuck her finger in a gate hole waiting in line for swimming... remember that?! I stuck my tongue to the freezer section at Supervalue when I was about Hailey's age. It's like a right of passage!!

OOOOOOOOOOOOO OUCH!!!!!! I remember those days. On the bus I stuck the end of my tongue to the seat in front of me and I'll always remember the pain involved. That was just the tip, too.

Oh I hope that she is feeling a little better today!

That must have hurt. I know that I did it when I was young and so has one of my daycare kids....Never again...I HOPE!

oh no!! I do hope she is ok!! I have to admit that tongues sticking to frozen poles makes me chuckle. It reminds me of one of my favorite movies "A Christmas Story". It's about a family in the 50's and it is so hilarious! I do hope her tongue is better soon!
