Camping out in my house

My power just came back on about 20 minutes ago. It has been out since Sunday morning! My house is freeeeeezing and since we have a well....we have had no water too! sucks big time! Last night I slept over at one of my new friends house with all the girls so they could have showers/baths and wake up to a warm house. I am so grateful for the friends I am making up here. I can't imagine having done all this without support! I was pretty miffed at BC Hydro, they were not so compassionate to me crying on the phone about not having heat or water ... no water! imagine if you will 5 girls in one house not being able to flush toilets! like oh.my.gosh. The high today is -10! so I am thankful that the heat came back on before my pipes froze! It is snowing again now.

I love modern convenience and made me SO THANKFUL to live in this century. Laura Ingells I am not! It was quite overwhelming without J too. Well he was home for the weekend and now has gone back up to work. He was thinking about flying down to the coast cuz his gramma is in the hospital and not doing so well apparently. In the end he decided to just go back to work cuz he figured his gramma will not recognize him anyways but it was not an easy decision to make. I think if she is really not going to make it then he will fly down from work. His gramma has been sick for a really long time. I can't imagine what it is like for his grandpa to watch his loved one deteriate like this.

My weekend with J was eventful as always. Seems we don't have many dull moments around here. He decided to surprise me and came home a bit early on Thursday which was so wonderful. Friday morning he went out hunting first thing and called me at 8 am to come pick him up because he slid off the road into a ditch.....he needed to be towed! We couldn't get someone there til Sat early evening cuz he had to get a 4x4 tow truck and surprisingly they are scarce up here in the white north??!!! who would have thought that?! not us! we also had to pay extra $ cuz BCAA wouldn't cover the 4x4 tow!! ok $$ grabbers! that also meant that we had to keep the rental SUV a few more days which also meant more $$.....so J said to me "I think God is trying to tell me something!".........ya hunting is expensive and we have yet to have any edible meat!! yeesh......good thing I loves that man. To top it off Aunt Flo visited with us this weekend too making me a little grumpy and feeling down. Then add NO power to our big Grey Cup party with over 25 people at our house including a wack of kids and I have had full counters and no clean dishes since Sunday! You know we are the hostess's with the mostess's for having a grey cup party in the dark borrowing a generator to watch the game on our big screen tv.....no heat just game! yah we know how to throw a party! now 2 days later I still have to clean it all up! again thank goodness for dishwashers and hot water!

Oh MY Goodness!

What can I say. I am very glad that power was turned back on. I don't know what I would do if we didn't have power here, for that long. I guess I would really get to know my In-Laws... they have a fire place and that would help a bit.

Hope things get better for you! Are you feeling better?

That is a long time without power and water, wow. So nice to have good friends though! It is one thing to go camping and you know and are prepared for no power and water, but in my home, it would be chaotic!!

We have well water so if we lose power, we also lose water (no juice for the pump). The longest we've ever been without power is the 13 immediately following Hurricane Katrina. Fortunately we had evacuated to Uncle Harold's house 11 people in 2 bedrooms with one bath. Still we were luckier than most.

I'm glad you had a place to land with the girls, and glad you're power is back on.

I'm so glad your power is back on i could not imagine going that long without power. About a month ago we lost power just as I was getting ready to go to a banquet for the equestrian association where my daughter rode all summer. My hair was not curled I had to iron my pants I was right in the middle of ironing them and I had no make up on. What did I do I got in the car pulled out the eliminator ( a wonderful addition to my car) Curled my hair and used the straightening iron as a iron and iroed my pants then of course put on my make up all on the way to the banquet it is a good thing It was 2hrs away. It was only off for about 6 hrs.It was on by the time I got home

But I'm glad it came back on for you.

Hey La - remember the times the well pump froze on the acreage - we used jerry cans to haul water to flush. Then we lost power - not because of storms but - cut.
Had only that wood burner fireplace. Neat watching your breath come out while in the house. At least mom and I could cuddle to keep warmer. Not sure about you and shash cuddling. Tam and Kim had escaped the freeze.

Ahhhhh the cold crisp days - clear skies, snow on the ground - memories (i'm glad they are just memories) and now you get to enjoy them.

So that big tv room is getting a workout.
hello to the girls and the big guy when he gets home again.
