open mouth insert ............. opinion

Ok so the preschool drama continues! I went over to my friends house tonight for a weiner roast with the girls and she has a lady over with her 2 boys and the lady says I look familar! so it ends up that Faith and her son are in the same preschool.

oh wait back up

I had called over earlier to say that we couldn't stay late cuz one of my girls .... guess which one??!!....... was kind of like majorily loosing it and I KNEW she needed to go to bed early, so while I was calling she was busy screaming and making the wonderful noises that she does when she is in official breakdown mode, this lady was there and could hear my wonderful children's wailings from ACROSS THE ROOM.......yaaaaaah nice!

so then

I am there meeting her (my friends new friend...you following me?) after she has heard my child at her finest and I state......
"oh so did you know about the little COO at the preschool? (and not waiting for an answer I continue) I can't believe some of the parents want more structure? (again not remembering that I am in the MINORITY and not stopping for facial signals that I am heading down the faux pas path) I mean afterall this is playschool we are talking about!...........
I finally come up for air and she says in a quiet tone

" well it was kind of out of control and detremental ( ok that word should have been my que that she was a majority and I was in a VERY SMALL minority)... one child even escaped out of the classroom.........

ok that isn't good....even I can admit that.........

but then of course still not seeing the obvious I open my mouth and inserted some more of my opinion.....

"well I just don't think we need to be worried about academics in preschool. Kids don't have to know how to write their name for Kindergarten!".......

I start catching on when she says " well I think you are of a different philosophy?" ...........

ok I said started catching on....not caught on..... so I continue cuz I am so smart s.m.r.t......

"well they never even used to HAVE preschool and kids started school at like age 8 and they are not even physically developed to hold a pencil till 4 or 5.....(k like totally took that from Chrissa's comment hehehe)... and they all learn at different paces but they WILL all learn".......

she says " this is 2006".........

that was the end of the conversation!!! um like duh way to go! my friends and I were laughing about it after around the fire..... I said it is a good thing that I have gotten over what people think of me cuz how much do you want to bet that that little conversation is going to be spread to ALL the other preschool moms.....way to make myself the minority and outspoken! ahhhhhh yes.... just got to be me eh?!

so tomorrow I get to go again as cleaning duty mom......hope I don't forget my rubber gloves! it should be interesting what kind of LOOKS I get!! hehe

then tom. afternoon I am doing prayer ministry again with the same lady and then J comes home tom. night or early Fri morning. I also have parent/teacher interviews Friday morning...love that my last name is "A" therefore even though the kids don't have school and I technically am allowed to sleep in....hopefully with hubby :-) , I can't cuz I have to be at the school for my first meeting at 8:15!! ahhhh yes that's just great isn't it? then we are heading up to the Ranch this weekend to help my Aunt and Uncle round up their cattle for the winter.....total cowfoke stuff.....rounding up the herd by horse back! should be fun and I can feel the saddle sores already haha..... we will be back on Sunday and J leaves Monday mid afternoon so I will probably not post till after we get back unless something really interesting happens at preschool tomorrow morning and hey with my life ......... you just never know when the open mouth insert opinion is going to happen! till then have a great weekend.

oh I just have to say how wonderful my neighbors are again......she is picking up Morgan from Youth tonight for me so that I could put my very overtired little girls to bed at a decent time! they are amazing people and I am so thankful God placed us beside each other!

and spell check isn't working....maybe if I went to a more structured preschool I would know how to spell better :-0

I applaude your outspokeness i can agree with you the kids need to be kids they are in school long enough who said they are not learning to share learning to behave, learning to listen to others, learning to be patient or wait thier turn.I give you credit to be speaking out someone has too.

Have fun at the ranch I know my daughter Monica would love to be there. Her horse is a good galloper she could run those cows down. I have a picture on my latest blog with her horse she competes in the jumper division. have a great time judy

Personally, I think you have a point. I'm constantly amazed at the things my 4th and 6th graders are learning-Stuff I may not have seen until the 9th grade. Another big difference: recess is so much shorter than when I was a kid. My sons get one 15-minute recess. How are they supposed to burn off some energy, learn to navigate the way of the playground (i.e. socialize outside the classroom). I wonder if we're creating a generation of ubersmart kids who are lacking in the basic socialization, and practical problem-solving skills. Not all kids, mind you... but I do think kids today are pushed too far, too fast. (climbing off my soapbox)

I love it! I've opened my mouth and inserted foot many times recently in regards to my neighbors. It's not a good feeling. HOWEVER, with that said, I am in agreement with your opinion and there's no reason that just because your opinion is of the minority that it shouldn't be heard. I was watching the news last night and they were talking about parents who are now getting TUTORS to prepare their kids for PRE-SCHOOL!! Whaaatt?? Good grief. Ever hear of letting your kids be kids?!

I must be a bad unstructured mom.My kids never went to pre-school, but did mention to write their names at the age of 4. In Ontario we start at 4, sometimes 3, depending on where B-days fall. I do hope it is true that kids pick up by grade 4, olivia is really struggling in math.

You know what - I taught kindergarten, and they had certain requirements for children that I thought were pretty harsh. They had to be able to read before moving out of pre-k into kindergarten (I taught at a private Christian school), but regardless, every single parent has important input and don't let anyone make you feel like you can't say what you think or feel. Who gives a crap what some of these people think? Seriously. If someone is pushing their kids that hard in preschool.. good grief. I'm sure your children are much happier, they'll be fine academically and more importantly - emotionally.

I think you're wonderful. Next time flip them off! kidding.
