did someone say "reward"?

Remember when I said I was going to do a reward chart list for my kids? Well last night it all came together for me. I LOVE spreadsheets and love being on the computer so I set it all up so I will have access and I don't have to go get big cardboard paper! I made each kid a separate spreadsheet. I wrote down their individual chores and dailey list of things to do. Each task completed gets a point. I also did a column for bonus stuff like memorizing a scripture verses and getting rewards at school, they will get bonus points for those kind of things. I also made a column to record tasks not done or bad behavior towards me and each other and at school, so they will loose points for those things. When they reach 20 points they get to pick a reward from the reward jar ie. a sundae, spa night, pick next dvd rental, stuff like that.....but they can save their reward and when they have 5 rewards they can trade it in for $5.00 or other bigger rewards, if they save 10 rewards they can trade it for $10.00 or going to the theater...stuff like that.

I went over it with the girls last night and they seemed pretty into it. They liked the idea a lot so today is the first day and we will see how it goes! I also told them how bad their behavior is determines how many points they loose..... I feel really good about it and like that there is something in place. This also will be their new allowance system.

I went to the gym this morning with my friend that moved up here from the coast as well. I have mentioned about her before. They moved about 20 minutes from us a little North of PG. She is really into fitness and working out so she has been riding my butt about getting to the Y, we both have family memberships. So I finally made it today. I did pretty good. I made a conscious effort not to overdue it or I won't want to go back......baby steps....like real tiny ones! So we did the treadmill for 20 min, then did the circuit then she had to go cuz she got their before me and I rode the bike for 15 min. I definitely can feel it but I am not limping...so I plan to go again tomorrow morning. It feels good to be finally working out though and getting this sorry body into shape! and I have a goal to make a difference in my body so each time J comes home he can see the difference too, kind of reward for me to see his reaction and IF he even notices!!

Have I mentioned yet how friendly this town is yet? no? well let me tell you......it's so friendly...... how friendly is it......it's so friendly that when you make a simple phone call regarding "free kittens" you get stuck on the phone for 30 minutes, next thing you know you have a coffee date!! you say hello to someone working at the Y and the next thing you know, even though you have said you have to go pick your daughter from preschool....several times.....she just goes on talking and you are 15 min late to pick her up.....and it continues! don't get me wrong it is such a nice change from the coast where everyone is in such a hurry that you say hello how are you that's nice yes I am fine the girls are fine see you later sometime we should get together for coffee then run to our mini van and zoom off to the next place!!! not here. Things are a lot slower here and it takes a bit of time to get used too. I just need to learn a polite way to say I REALLY have to go and actually make it off the phone or out the door!! I do have to say though, that I really like it up here! I will try to take some pics of the changing of the leaves and my new member of the family......cuz you GOT to know me and know that 2 dogs and 4 kids and a husband are just NOT enough!!!

I do something similar to rewards for my kids. They have their own regular chores that they're expected to do just because they're part of the family and we work together as a team. No special rewards for those. However, there's an item that Son #1 and Son #2 want to buy so we started a "KidzKredit" (they named it) system by which they earn points for do extra chores above and beyond what's expected. Once they get a certain number of credits, I'll convert it to cash and we'll go shopping. That's a way off though. It's tough because some of their friends get allowances and aren't expected to do chores, but that's not the way I wanted to do it.

I love the rewards system thing! I think it's a good thing to give kids the responsiblity to earn (or sometimes lose) rewards for things they do (or don't do)!! We give the kids allowance...Emily gets $5 a week and Travis gets $3 a week. There are things they have to do daily and things they do every weekend. Everything has to be done before they can get their money. They also lose money (usually in 50 cent increments) for bad behavior. Usually if they start down a bad road I can ask them if it is worth 50 cents to them and usually the answer is now and they'll change their actions!

Now...what is this new member of the family...you can't keep us in suspense!!!!

Yep, I'd say you have a veritable (and adorable) zoo without adding another one to mix. :-)

A friendly town is so wonderful. I missed that so much when I lived in Dallas.

Love spreadsheets - ugh!! Tom loves creating them too - he's created one for so many aspects of our life it makes me insane.

But I can see how the kids would love that - it sounds like fun to me!!

That system is a great idea Lala.

Hearing you talk about how friendly it is up there makes me all mushy. I wanna move up there!! Especially when Waawee does. Ugh, the thought of having her gone from here breaks my achy heart. Boohoo. I'm so happy for you.

I've been trying to do a system like that but dangit these kids of mine are kinda weird in that they're not horribly moved one way or the other by such systems...

Oh... I LOVE horses! I miss having one... I hope you let us know soon!
